BE BACK ON TIME

By 19:00 on Sunday we were becoming concerned about an Irish couple on the A course who were yet to return. The Arrochar MR Team were with us at the Event Centre. They will never leave the LAMM until all lost souls are accounted for. The Strathclyde Police helicopter was called in to fly the route but low cloud and mist hampered progress. The SPORTident stations on the A route above Glen Shira and Glen Fyne were collected and interrogated by 20:30. This isolated the missing LAMMers on the section somewhere between the two stations. Additional members of the local teams were assembling from 20:00 onwards and the intention was first to collect all the SPORTident stations on the route, prior to a full search. As one team was driving up Glen Shira, they met the couple walking out, having been lost and moving slowly due to injury for a few hours. All's well that ends well. It was certainly a busy weekend for Arrochar MRT and how ironic that the accident and the missing incident both occurred when the event was based on Arrochar MRT's own patch.

The moral of this tale is that you must retire with enough time to return to the Event Centre by 17:00. Then if you find yourself in the wrong valley, there is time to get a message back to us before a full scale rescue is mounted.

We're grateful to Finbar and Karen for allowing us to link to an article Finbar has written about their LAMM experience. We look forward to seeing them again next year.
