Dear LAMMers

  • NEW - Outdoor Industry Mountain Marathon Championships

  • University Mountain Marathon Championships
  • Thinking of Flying to the LAMM? - Possible Coaches from Glasgow & Edinburgh. We Need Your feedback by mid-May.

NEW - Outdoor Industry Mountain Marathon Championships
Lowe Alpine is throwing the gauntlet down and is proud to sponsor the first Outdoor Industry Mountain Marathon Championships. To Qualify, at least one team member must be in full time employment within the Outdoor Industry as a retailer or manufacturer/distributor. If your team qualifies, then this is the competition for you! Once you have entered the LAMM you can fill in your details on the Outdoor MM Champs. web page. You need to nominate your company or companies when you register. The winning team will be presented with an identical pair of "unique" and "novel" engraved trophies at the LAMM prize-giving. We're sure your company or companies will be proud to display the trophies in a prominent place for the following 12 months! This competition runs in parallel with the LAMM and will not effect your overall standing in the main event. The results will be based on a calculation that allows you to compete on your usual course. You don't need to enter one specific course in order to qualify for the championships.

LAMM is Nearly Full
Since online entries opened six weeks ago at www.lamm.co.uk, we have taken 485 entries and the event is now nearly full. Don't delay entering and risk disappointment. If you are thinking of entering your first LAMM I suggest you look at the 2005 LAMM Feedback to get a feel for the event and understand what makes LAMM competitors come back year after year.

I drove back from the event area on a very snowy afternoon a few weeks ago (Sunday 12th March) - the day the A9 was closed over Drumochter and the A74 closed on Beattock. I left the venue at 2.30pm but still made it home to Cumbria by 10pm. The LAMM is "north" this year but it struck me that certainly for those living in the north of England (or further north), the roads are so good that with a couple of drivers the journey shouldn't be too tough.

However, it's still worth burning your boats and booking a day or two of holiday so that you can stay up and enjoy the north of Scotland.

LAMM Tee Shirts and Car Stickers
You can see details of the special edition LAMM 2006 Dryflo tee shirt. We still have about 15 LAMM 2005 Isle of Mull dryflo teeshirts available at excellent prices and also some LAMM tees from recent events and plenty of maps at the LAMM shop. We will send out more car stickers with any tees you purchase. If you would like more car stickers from LAMM 2003, 2004 or 2005 please send an SAE to the address on the "Contact Us " pagel.

University Mountain Marathon Championships
More than 20 teams took part in the inaugural event at the 2005 LAMM. To see more details of the 2006 championships and to enter, visit the 2006 University MM Champs. web page.

Thinking of Flying to the LAMM? - Possible Coaches from Glasgow/Edinburgh
We need your feedback please about this as soon as possible - By the end of April. You will see from the event information that we will provide transport from Inverness to meet planes and trains. We were thinking of not providing transport from further south than Inverness this year but would help you to make contact with others on the same flights to Glasgow/Edinburgh so you can hire a car together.

However, we are prepared to re-consider providing a coach from Glasgow and Edinburgh. An idea I've had for this year is to use two coaches to collect from both locations and for the Edinburgh coach to be consolidated with the Glasgow coach on the A9 near Perth. One coach would continue to the LAMM venue. The timings would be approximately as follows:

Edinburgh Airport - Latest Arrival Friday: 19:00
Edinburgh Airport - Earliest Departure Sunday: 19:30
Glasgow Airport - Latest Arrival Friday:18:00
Glasgow Airport - Earliest Departure Sunday: 20:00

(please tell us if your preferred flight arrives a bit later or leaves bit earlier than the times detailed above)

On Friday, the coach would arrive at the LAMM venue by midnight.
On Sunday, the coach would need to leave the LAMM venue at 13:00

Keep those entries flying in and if appropriate, tell us if these coach options would be of interest to you.

All the best
