LAMM
2001 – TRUST US. THE LAMM IS DEFINTELY STILL
ON
Foot
and Mouth Disease - The estates for this
year’s LAMM have kindly agreed that we can
carry out a full recce. of the routes on
the week beginning 23rd April. We will be
taking stringent disinfecting precautions,
which have been agreed with the estates.
We are grateful to the estates for the support
and trust they are placing in the event
organisation. Suitable F&M precautions for
the event weekend are being discussed and
as long as no outbreak of Foot and Mouth
occurs in the Highlands, the LAMM will take
place.
LAMM
2001 – WE NEED YOUR ENTRY
What
we need now from you, the competitors, is
plenty more entries. Although the event
is now half full we fear that apathy may
be rife and people are assuming that this
is yet another event that will unfortunately
not be taking place. Nothing could be further
from the truth. Think positively and bear
in mind that no cheque you send or card
payment will be deducted until the the event
is 99% certain to take place. It will not
cost you a penny in entry fees or coach
transport costs if we are forced to cancel
the event.
We can never understand why we have to try
so hard to persuade 450 pairs to come to
the LAMM in an idyllic part of the Highlands
in June when the KIMM so easily attracts
1800 pairs at the end of October. Answers
on a postcard (or by email)! Please spread
the word and get your friends to enter the
LAMM. This is another connoisseurs area.
LAMM 2001 - COURSES WILL
BE LESS TOUGH THAN USUAL
We
realise that if you live to the south of
a line from Glasgow – Edinburgh, Foot &
Mouth means that opportunities to train
on the hills are very limited. Mark Hawker,
our planner, is tweaking the courses so
that they will be faster underfoot with
less climbing than usual, but the distances
will be about the same. We suggest that
you enter the course you would normally
run and not assume that you won’t be able
to cope. We want to prevent the shorter
courses being unecessarily crowded. Remember
that you can change course up or down at
registration.
LAMM2000 - LOST PROPERTY
We still have a pair of custom orienteering
spectacles (strength +3.00), which come
with a hinged attachment and blue/clear
plastic headband. Any takers?

EFFECTS OF FOOT & MOUTH
– SURVEY RESULTS
Rob Howard of 9feet.com would like to thank
all the LAMM competitors who helped with
the 9feet.com survey on the effects of foot
and mouth. Not surprisingly the majority
of you are affected in some way and 63%
of those plan to head abroad for Easter.
There were many expressions of frustration,
not just at the limitations on where we
can go, but over the handling of the crisis,
the lack of information and the damage done
to industries outside farming. You can find
the full results at this address http://www.9feet.com/news2.php3?id=1&cc=GBR&article_id=956
SCOTLAND – MANY AREAS
ARE NOW OPEN FOR WALKERS & CLIMBERS
If you are not already going abroad for
Easter there is a lot of information on
how to find places to go in the UK in the
9feet Foot & Mouth news section http://www.9feet.com/news.php3?section=26&cc=GBR&id=1.
